Every year, one of the member organisations of the European Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Therapies organizes a scientific congress in the area of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). From 10 – 13 September 2014 the Dutch Society for Behavioural and Cognitive Therapy (VGCt) will host the congress ‘CBT: Bridging the gap between science and practice’ in the World Forum, The Hague.

Over the years a gap has developed between research into experimental psychopathology and research into treatment in academic settings on the one hand and cognitive behavioural therapy in clinical practice on the other. The aim of this congress is to bridge this gap.

The scientific committee headed by chairman Paul Emmelkamp will take care of an interesting scientific programme presented by influential researchers and clinicians, at least 15 keynote speakers, from all over the world.

The scientific program will cover a diverse range of topics including: the cognitive behavioural treatment of addictive disorders, anxiety disorders, OCD and related disorders, mood disorders, eating disorders, psychotic disorders, personality disorders, child and adolescent mental health, treatment of the elderly and behavioural medicine. Throughout these topics, the emphasis will be on evidence-based practice, training of evidence-based CBT practitioners, dissemination of results of clinically relevant studies, the pros and cons of technological innovations in CBT such as internet-based therapy, virtual reality treatment and use of gaming in therapy.

Next to the scientific programme there will also be a social programme (opening reception, drinks, party evening), to enable the delegates to meet international and new colleagues in a different setting.
To remain informed in the field of cognitive behavioural therapy (first- and second-line) psychologists, healthcare and clinical psychologists, doctors from all of Europe and other parts of the world should not miss this event. We expect a minimum of 2500 delegates – around 1500 from The Netherlands – and a maximum of 3500 delegates.
